Northern Virginia Chamber Announces 2017 Greater Washington Innovation Awards™ Honorees and Nominees


Tysons, Va. – The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce (Northern Virginia Chamber) today announced the honorees and nominees for the 2017 Greater Washington Innovation Awards™ to be presented on Thursday, April 27, at The Hamilton Live in Washington, DC. 

Presented across eight categories, the awards honor companies that demonstrate thought leadership, innovation and creativity in the Greater Washington region. The application period was November 2016 through February 2017. An independent selection committee reviewed applications. A select group of nominees was chosen to present their innovations at the Greater Washington Innovation Awards™ Showcase on March 3. From this group, judges chose finalists and winners who will be announced live at the event. Again, this year, guests of the Greater Washington Innovation Awards™ Showcase were able to cast their vote for the Business Choice Award. The winner will be announced live at the awards. 

“Greater Washington is home to some of the most innovative companies in our country,” said Jim Corcoran, Northern Virginia Chamber President & CEO. “This year’s nominees represent an impressive portfolio of companies and organizations who are changing the way we do business.”

Innovators of the Year 

Presented to a Greater Washington area individual who has emerged as a new innovator and leader within the region. This individual represents and embodies disruptive innovation and has shown a passion for challenging the status quo.

Evan Burfield, Cofounder & CEO, 1776
Donna Harris, Cofounder, 1776

"Under Evan Burfield and Donna Harris's leadership, 1776 has helped to establish the importance of the Greater Washington region within the global startup community by working with over 1,000 startups solving complex challenges," said Peter Cherukuri, 1776 president and chief innovation officer. "Their vision has come to fruition through deep partnerships and creating a network of startup ecosystems with policymakers, investors, corporations and entrepreneurs."

Lifetime Innovator

Presented to a Greater Washington area individual for lifelong innovation and outstanding contributions to the region and above-and-beyond leadership in the business community. This individual has been a longtime advocate for challenging the status quo and has a longstanding reputation for encouraging disruptive innovation in his or her company and beyond.

Mike Daniels, Chairman, LMI

“Mike Daniels has done what few in technology ever have.  He’s repeatedly combined game changing ideas with an unmatched passion for taking care of people to achieve the very highest levels of success, and respect,” said Luke Knittig, vice president of communications for LMI, where Daniels serves as board chair.
